Our Projects

Here's just a small look in to what we have done over the past few years at NEW.

Eritrea’s 30th Independence day

16 Days of Activism

The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence Campaign This is an international campaign that runs from the 25th November to the 10th December. This campaign was first started by the Women's Global Leadership Institute, organized by the Center for Women's Global Leadership (CWGL) at Rutgers University in 1991. Participants chose the dates for the campaign. The 25th November is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. The 10th December is the International Human Rights Day. This International Campaign symbolically links violence against women and human rights, and highlight that these types of violence are human rights abuses and crimes, according to international and national laws / legal instruments.

We decided to have important discussions around state violence against women and girls, the life cycle of abuse against women and girls available in both English and Tigrinya. We also had a discussion by our honorary member Dr Ishraga Mustafa speaking about what lies behind violence against women and girls in Arabic.

We held the our 4th symposium in Vienna in August 2017. At the 4 day conference we had presentations from various researchers, academics and women within the sector. It enabled women to network with each other and share their experiences, knowledge, skills and evaluate how best to enable Eritrean women to move forward. On the last day we had a joint conference with women from the Horn of Africa
